We know that the darkspawn did come from the magisters corrupting the then-Golden-City after meeting Corypheus in Legacy DLC, since he is supposedly one of the ancient magisters who entered the city. When Tamlen looks at the Eluvian, he sees "a great city, underground, then a great blackness." After he disappears, he contracts the darkspawn taint.Ģ. When Duncan (in Dalish Origin) says that the Eluvians (that we find out the ancient elves used for communication in Arlathan), he says they become filled with the same taint as the darkspawn. I came up with this independently, but I see that others also had this idea, that the Black City is the ancient city of Arlathan (DAO and DA2 spoilers, including DLC)ġ.
